Summary of benefits for seniors aged 65 and over
In this post, we will provide you with the latest information on welfare benefits provided to seniors aged 65 and older.
▶ Welfare benefits for seniors aged 65 and over
There are benefits that have been available before, but have disappeared, and there are new ones.
We have brought you the latest information, so please read it carefully.
① Basic old-age pension benefits
If you are over 65 years of age and your recognized income (evaluation of income + amount of income conversion) is below the standard set by the government, you will be recognized as a recipient of the basic old-age pension. You can benefit.
Recognized income is the sum of the assessed income and the converted income.
Let’s take a look at how to calculate the estimated income here:
[Evaluated income = (earned income – 1.03 million won) X 0.7 (other income)]
Other income includes property income, pension income, public transfer income, free rental income, and rental income.
As other incomes are added together, there are cases where you cannot receive the basic old-age pension benefits because you exceed the selection standard, so please calculate carefully.

Basic old-age pension selection standard amount 1.8 million won 2.88 million won
※ Please note that if you are a recipient of public servant pension, military pension, private school teacher pension, or special post office pension, or your spouse falls under any of these categories, you are not eligible for basic old-age pension.
② Free flu vaccination benefits
This is a government-designated vaccination benefit provided to infants aged 6 to 12 months and senior citizens aged 65 or older. You can get one vaccination each year. The influenza vaccination period is usually announced in late September or early October, so you can get vaccinated around that time.
② Free pneumococcal vaccination
The incidence of invasive pneumococcal infection is high among the elderly over 65 years of age. In addition, when bacteremia caused by pneumococcal bacteria occurs, the mortality rate is 60%, and in the case of meningitis, the mortality rate approaches 80%.
To prevent such a fatal invasive pneumococcal infection, the government supports a single vaccination of pneumococcal 23-valent polysaccharide vaccine (ppsv23).
You can get vaccinated by visiting public health centers (including branch offices and clinics) and designated medical institutions.

If you are over 65 years of age, you can receive free health checkups for each life cycle.
In addition to basic health checkups, physical function tests for the elderly (fall tests/lower extremity muscle strength tests and balance tests) and bone density tests are available to diagnose the risk of falls, so please check with your local public health center.
④ Benefits of support for high blood pressure and diabetes medications
Hypertension and diabetes are diseases that require continuous management, so this policy supports a portion of the out-of-pocket expenses to reduce the burden of pharmaceutical expenses for elderly patients.
In Yongin-si, where I live, Suji-gu, Giheung-gu, and Cheoin-gu all offer this benefit to seniors aged 65 or older. If you receive medical treatment at 3 district public health centers and 6 public health centers within the city, obtain a prescription, and manufacture medicine at 303 contract pharmacies in Yongin City, you can receive support for part of the out-of-pocket expenses.
If you fill out and submit a claim form, you will receive 2,000 won for 7 days, 4,000 won for 15 days, 7,000 won for 30 days, 12,000 won for 60 days, and 17,000 won for 90 days, depending on the number of days prescribed.
