If you want to learn coffee professionally, it would be a good idea to check out how to get a barista license. It is not a nationally recognized qualification, but as a private qualification, you can acquire a barista, a coffee professional qualification, domestically or abroad. I will introduce how to get a barista license from the Korea Coffee Association. 좋은뉴스
When accessing the homepage, the following pop-up window will appear. In college dining-related departments, we are also studying for barista qualifications as a certified institution of the Korea Coffee Association. If you learn the specialized barista course through a university department like this, you will be given the special admission qualification that allows you to exempt from the written test when you acquire the first-class qualification.
First of all, let’s check out the second level of how to get a barista license. For general admission, both written and practical exams are required. The written test consists of 50 questions and lasts 60 minutes. The practical test evaluates preparation, espresso, cappuccino, and service skills, and will be evaluated while demonstrating for 10 minutes.
The barista level 2 special screening is exempt from the written test, so there is no burden on writing. If you are eligible for the special screening for your major, for those who have earned credits in your major in university, those who have completed the barista academy, and WCCK judges, and the special screening for foreigners and people with disabilities, apply for the special screening.
You can apply for the barista license online, and in the case of the general screening, attach a JPG file of your own photo. Since the special screening process has strict pre-document screening without a written test, you must carefully prepare and submit the required documents according to the relevant screening process.
This time, we will look at the first level of how to get a barista license. Level 1 is a bit more difficult than Level 2, and the written test also includes an English evaluation coffee question. In the case of the practical test, the test category is similar, but the test method is a little more detailed. Along with the pre-preparation process, 4 cups of espresso and cappuccino are evaluated, flavor check, and explanations are accompanied.
Like barista level 2, there is a special selection for level 1. It is limited compared to the 2nd class, as it is possible to apply for the special major selection for students with excellent grades in the university’s major department, those who have completed the barista academy, and WCCK judges. However, in the case of the 1st to 6th place winners of the national selection competition hosted by the association, you do not have to take the practical test as long as you pass the written test.
The required documents for level 1 barista are similar to those for level 2. In the general admission, you only need to prepare a photo along with the online application, and in the special admission, you need to prepare and submit the relevant documents.
You should also check the exam schedule that you must know about as a way to get a barista license. Barista Levels 1 and 2 have exam schedules every month. Please note that schedules vary slightly depending on the province and the metropolitan area.
The barista level 2 certification exam schedule is similar to that of level 1, but the schedule is slightly different, so please check the schedule according to the level you want to acquire.
The barista certification exam fee is 33,000 won for written and 55,000 won for practical skills for barista level 2. Class 1 is 44,000 won for handwriting and 110,000 won for class 2, so the price range is high. I need to prepare as perfectly as possible to pass the test at once.
I checked the overall procedure, documents, and application fee on how to obtain a barista license. Even if you can study on your own for the written test, it is better to attend an academy for the practical test. It will incur costs as it is a license acquisition, but if you are eligible for government support, you may want to participate in the government support education.
Since it is a very popular qualification, it tends to come up a lot in searches for government support programs. It costs about 290,000 won for general trainees, but if you are eligible for government support, you can participate in the certification acquisition process for free or at a lower cost.
If you have experience working part-time at a cafe, you will be able to acquire barista qualifications more easily. It is one of the certifications that many people around me, regardless of age and gender, challenge. For those who wanted to start but didn’t know how to do it, I introduced the overall method of getting a barista license. Hope this helps!
